A new feature length documentary following top chefs tackling food waste gets its London premiere on Friday 23rd June.
Pac n Vac’s David Calvert is delighted that the challenge of food waste is beginning to reach a wider audience. He set up Pac ‘n Vac with the sole mission to treat food with respect and help change the way the nation looks at how they store food.
WASTED! The Story of Food Waste*, directed by Anna Chai and Nari Key, is an 85-minute film about the food waste crisis and those working to combat it.
Nari Kye said of the documentary: “We were making lots of shows with chefs and time and time again they were saying how frustrating they found food waste. There were various factors — economical, moral, and environmental — but above all they all abhorred food waste. We wanted to show what a huge problem it is, as I think a lot of people aren’t aware of the scale of it.
“But we didn’t just want to scare the pants off people. While there are some scary facts, on the whole it focuses on inspirational people and what they are doing to solve the problem.” Anna Chai said: “In a way, food waste is quite a good problem to have as it is easy to make a difference. There are a lot of small things that we can do.”
